What things are surprisingly not sold online? Are there goods that are still missing from the world of E-commerce? Should certain things not be sold online by law to protect consumers (which currently are legal to sell online)? How would such laws be regulated? Here, Global Web, a premiere payment processor, takes a look at some ot the oft-overlooked questions regarding the ever expanding universe of E-commerce.
It seems these day that we can buy absolutely everything online--from pets to pizza, to more unusual things like animal urine, to downright bizarre products like “zombie apocalypse insurance.” Of course, illegal items, like narcotics, are sold online too, in black-market channels--but thats a topic for another article. But there also things that consumers won't find sold online--and we're not talking about dangerous things, like crude oil or anything of that sort. Rather, common staple products like certain cosmetics brands, may sometimes be difficult to find on the web. The reasons is that cosmetics companies want to have more control over branding and prices, and also argue that consumers should be consulting with specialist before purchasing their products.
On the other hand, there are certain things that, surprisingly, you can purchase online. In the US, alcohol, depending on each state, may be legally purchased or sold over the internet. What is more surprising, however, is that firearms can also be purchased legally and quite easily over the internet too. Of course, those wishing to purchase firearms must have a license, and must have gone through a background check. Nonetheless, the fact that dangerous weapons are sold online should not be left unquestioned. Through online sales, it may be easier for ill-intentioned people to purchase firearms, or for firearms to get into the wrong hands during the transaction.
The fact is, there is simply a great deal of risk involved in the online sale and purchase of firearms. On the other hand, however, some may argue that it may be preferable for firearms to be sold online in regulated environments, rather than for them to be banned entirely from the internet, possibly making way for more unregulated, illegal firearms transactions online. In any case, this is only one example of the kind of questions we should be asking ourselves about what is or is not legally sold online, and its a discussion all of us as consumers should be having.
